While we may not realize it, we are all aging every single day. If you don’t feel it, don’t worry, its a good thing. You want to stay young at heart, young in the mind, and physically active.  Recent surveys have shown that 95% of Americans prefer to age at home, rather than move into a retirement community or extended care facility.  But as we age, eventually we all experience physical changes that make it necessary to make changes in our home.

The National Aging In Place Council’s website has recommendations for home improvements that make the home more accessible for an aging population.  Home design changes for aging at home include: roll-in showers, hand-held showers, grab bars, and placement of electrical switches. At HB Building and Design, we believe in creating functional and beautiful living spaces. Our specialty is in creating designs that will allow you to age in place, while enjoying your own unique style. Call us if you would like us to look at helping you with a remodel that makes it easier for you to enjoy your home as time goes by.  HB Building and Design, 650-728-5878 . LEED for Homes is a rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes. A green home uses less energy, water and natural resources, creates less waste, and is healthier and more comfortable for occupants. Benefits of a LEED home include lower energy and water bills; reduced greenhouse gas emissions; and less exposure to mold, mildew and other indoor toxins. The net cost of owning a LEED home is comparable to that of owning a conventional home.
